A Pioneer for Lake Charles
Faye Brown Blackwell was more than just a community leader; she was a beacon of hope and a
relentless advocate for the people of Lake Charles. Through her groundbreaking work with KZWA 104.9
FM, she amplified the voices of the unheard and created platforms for black excellence to shine.
Her commitment to education, family empowerment, and cultural preservation laid the foundation for
what is now the Legacy Family Foundation. The Juneteenth Festival was one of her proudest
achievements—a space dedicated entirely to joy, remembrance, and community solidarity.
"As we remember some of the darker days in our history, we also look forward to brighter days ahead.
We celebrate the progress that has been made while recognizing the work that still remains as
African-Americans."
